Serving on a school district governing board is a rewarding job with enormous responsibility. Governing board members are elected, unpaid volunteers who have a passion for the public education system, are willing to invest enormous time and energy into learning about issues that affect our schools, and are committed to providing the best education for our students.
Successful board members possess a sincere desire to serve the community, communicate and collaborate effectively with others, and demonstrate respect for diverse perspectives. They attend board meetings and engage in related board work, bringing their experience to bear while also striving to become knowledgeable on a multitude of complex matters involving policies, finance and curriculum. Effective school governing boards work hard to cultivate positive relationships among all stakeholders and plan wisely to shape the future.

Thanksgiving Family Assistance Day Highlights
Thanks to the work of more than 120 volunteers, the Chandler CARE Center provided the makings for a Thanksgiving dinner for nearly 600 families who turned out Saturday morning for Thanksgiving Family Assistance Day. Frozen turkeys, potatoes, stuffing, fruit, vegetables, soup, cereal, and other items donated by our community were provided to Chandler families.
Volunteers ranging from individuals to various CUSD schools and sites assisted CARE Center staff with sorting, bagging, and distributing thousands of donated food items. Financial contributions helped make it possible for the CARE Center to purchase rice, beans, and turkeys to complete the bags for each family. Donations of additional turkeys and hams were also received from Central Kitchen, which stored all the frozen items and helped on Saturday by delivering and distributing to families.
Thank you to the many schools, sites, and clubs from within the district that provided support to the CARE Center. Without that support and assistance, this day would not have been possible! To see photos from the event please visit the website.
Food and hygiene donations continue to be in need as the CARE Center prepares more food bags for families to receive in December. CUSD staff have another chance to help through the CARE Center’s December 18 Family Assistance Day. Focused on providing new, unwrapped gifts to Chandler youth birth through 18, the December event is a collaboration with Chandler Fire Health and Medical Department and the CUSD community. Donations will be accepted at the CARE Center throughout the month of December. Keep an eye out for more information on volunteer needs.
