What is it?
State mandated test required for all Arizona students.  Effective the 2015/2016 School Year. 
 
Who has to take it?
This year, all high school students and  junior high school students taking semester 2 of; 9th, 10th, or 11th Grade English classes, or, Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II; are required to take the state mandated AzMERIT test at the school's designated testing facility on the designated testing date.  High school students, and junior high students taking high school courses, such as Algebra I or Geometry, take AzMERIT in the Fall for each semester 2 course requiring an AzMERIT exam they are enrolled in, and in the Spring for each semester 2 course requiring an AzMERIT exam. Junior high school students taking junior high classes take math and English language arts end of course AzMERIT exams only in the Spring.
 
Where do I take it?
Full-time COA high school and junior high students enrolled in the indicated classes during the Fall Semester, take the AzMERIT between October 26 and December 4(specific dates and times below) at Chandler Online Academy's Administrative Offices at iCAN in Chandler.  Part-time & Concurrent students enrolled in one or more of the listed AzMERIT tested classes online or in-person will take the AzMERIT exam at the Brick & Mortar School between October 26 and December 6, at the school's designated day/time/location. 
 
When do I take it?
Chandler Online Academy will email Full-time COA students and their parents to schedule the day/time they will take the AZMERIT assessment they are required to take.  The Brick & Mortar school will communicate the required testing days/times to Part-time & Concurrent students.  Junior high school students taking junior high classes take math and English language arts end of course AzMERIT exams only in the Spring.

AZMERIT English Language Arts for Full-time COA High School & Junior High School Students Enrolled in Semester 2 of English 9, 10, or 11 
 
High school students and junior high school students enrolled in semester 2 of English 9, 10, or 11 are required to attend AZMERIT Writing & Reading Exams.  Students will select 2 days from the options below to attend both; the Writing Exam the week of 10/26 – 10/30, and, the Reading Exam the week of 11/2 – 11/6.  After making 2 selections for each exam, click submit and the scheduling form will be sent to COA's office electronically.  COA Administration will schedule the student and email a confirmation with the date the student is scheduled to take each exam. 
 
 Review the schedule options below.  You will select 2 days when the student can attend testing each week, indicating the preferred date and a back-up date in case the preferred date is full.  The student will be scheduled to attend testing 1 day each week.  Click and schedule to take the AzMERIT Exam

The writing exam will take 1-2 hours.  Students can stay in the lab and work on their online classes until Release Time if they finish early

AZMERIT Mathematics for Full-time COA High School & Junior High School Students Enrolled in Semester 2 of Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II
 
High school students and junior high school students enrolled in semester 2 of Algebra I, Geometry, or Algebra II are required to attend AZMERIT Mathematics Exams.  The Mathematics exam is delivered in 2 parts.  Students take Part A of the exam, have a 5-10 minute break, and then take Part B.  Click the AzMERIT Exam link to select 2 days from the options below to attend the lab and take the AzMERIT Mathematics exam, both Part A and Part B.  After selecting 2 days when the student can attend to take the exam, click submit and the scheduling form will be sent to the office at COA electronically.  COA Administration will schedule the student and email a confirmation with the date and time the student is scheduled to take the AzMERIT Mathematics exam. 
 
   Indicate the preferred date and select a back-up date in case the preferred date is full.

The Mathematics exam will take 2-4 hours, 1-2 hours for Part 1 and 1-2 hours for Part 2.  Students can stay in the lab and work on their online classes until the "Release by" time if they finish early

High School AIMS - Update
Required to take AIMS:  Juniors and Seniors who have not yet taken AIMS or an equivalent exam, and Juniors and Seniors who have not yet scored a minimum of "Meets" in Math, Reading and Writing.  Arizona requires that all students in cohorts (graduation year) 2016 and below take High School AIMS and achieve a passing grade in math, reading, and writing in order to receive a high school diploma.

Important Information

 

Testing Guidelines:

·      Electronic devices including, cell phones, computers, calculators, portable music players are prohibited during AIMS testing and will not be permitted in the testing room.

·      Eat a healthy breakfast

·      Get at least 8 hours of sleep

·      Arrive 15 minutes early on testing day
