My Education and Professional Background
I began teaching in 1995 after completing my Post-Baccalaureate Teacher Certification Program at the University of Phoenix. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from The University of Arizona in 1990 and am a Wildcat for life. I completed my Masters of Arts in Education at University of Phoenix in 1998. I taught General Education Junior High English and Social Studies from 1995-2001. I then taught 8th grade self-contained at an alternative school at which time I decided to pursue my certification in Special Education which I received in 2003. I have worked in an inclusion setting at both the junior high and high school levels for the last 12 years.
My Educational Philosophy
I believe that all students have the potential to be learners. With desire, hard work and support our students can achieve more than they think possible. Education is a process that must start with high expectations and flexibility in order for students to reach their highest potential. High standards, clear expectations, and positive classroom management play integral parts in the educational journey. My own personal expectations as an educator provide a model for my students. I believe that when we challenge students, they reach heights in their learning they never believed they were capable of reaching. Education needs to be a well-thought out process. This journey is so important in a child's life; planning is essential. Having high expectations and creating a safe, positive environment allows for extraordinary opportunities for the future to become a brighter place.
