Here are today’s announcements for MONDAY,  January 23rd, 2017:
• VARSITY BASKETBALL OVERCOMES 19 point Deficit in second half to beat #4 Yuma Catholic
Varsity showed their resiliency in a come-from-behind win against Yuma Catholic. It was a total team effort. Players of the Game? The Freshman and JV players who stayed and willed our guys to victory. They were the student section we wanted and needed all year. With two home games this week on Tuesday and Thursday – hoping to see all our students and players at the game cheering us on to victory.
• On Saturday, Casteel junior high varsity wrestlers attended a state championship tournament held at Tempe high school. Evan Anderson finished in sixth place. Despite having only one month of experience, A.J. Murphy battled his way to a fourth place finish. 
Also on Saturday, Casteel junior high junior varsity wrestlers attended the EVC preseason tournament at Newell Barney. The standout wrestlers were Dallin Clark, Spencer Adams and Talon Rucker.
On Friday and Saturday, Casteel junior high wrestlers, brothers, Mykie Ramos and Sergio Ramos traveled all the way to Tulsa, Oklahoma to compete in the nation’s toughest wrestling tournament, battling the toughest wrestlers from around the country. Sergio wrestled tough through the tournament and Mykie was able to win third place!  Congratulations to ALL! 
• Your Lady Colts kept rolling Thursday night winning against ACP.  Girls Soccer is now 11-0 with 9 shut outs.  Arianna Gonzales, Samantha Anger and Mckenna Radder all got on the score sheet. Lady Colts have 1 game left next Thursday at 6pm away at ALA.  Come out and support your Lady Colts!"  GOOD LUCK Lady Colts!
• Calling all jazz musicians, including drummers, guitarists, pianists and instrumentalists: an interest meeting for the Casteel HS Jazz Band will take place today at 2:40 in the band room. Don't miss out!"
• Visit Mod pizza TODAY and Menchie’s in Queen Creek TODAY, for a Casteel orchestra fundraiser, thank you for your support!
• Hockey Club will be meeting this Wednesday after school from 2:30 to 3:30 in room C18.  We’ll be discussing the Winter Carnival.  Please plan to attend.
• Passes for students who are in the gifted program are available in Science Lab #4.  The first meeting is this Thursday.  See you there!
• Don’t forget that there is a Science Olympiad meeting tomorrow in Computer Lab B3, after school. We will be signing up for events for Saturday’s tournament.

• Wilks University is presenting in the Career Center on Thursday, January 26 during conference period.  Wilkes is a private, non-denominational university located in Pennsylvania, with a branch in Mesa, Arizona.    Please see Mrs. O’Brien to sign up!  
• Wednesday, Grand Canyon University is hosting a “Lunch Jam” at the A-wing café patio.   Stop by to learn more about.
• Please come out today and support Casteel's cheerleading teams and booster club eating at Moreno's Mexican Grill. Proceeds collected will benefit the cheerleading teams. The fundraiser is for today only, January 23, 2017, from 8am until 9pm at the Fry's Shopping Center on Higley Road. Thank you!
• FOR YOUR INFORMATION--the library will be closed today for A & B lunches.
• AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST!!---CONGRATULATIONS to these three fabulous people who are to be honored as the CASTEEL APPLE ACHIEVEMENT AWARD WINNERS for 2016 – 2017! 
STAFF MEMBER: Brett Huston !!  Mr. Huston coaches basketball, teaches, and makes sure that all students are reaching their potential.  He shares his positivity and enthusiasm in assemblies, the classroom hallways, and anywhere that he happens to be.
STUDENT: Ryker Templeton!!  Ryker has been selected for the Superintendent’s Award! He is an 8th grade student who has shown Courage, Character, and Commitment in how he has approached his studies.  He has taken initiative to push himself academically and personally to do his best.
VOLUNTEER:  Paul Nannaly!!  Mr. Nunnaly has worked with the theater department to help make pieces for the sets including the amazing red piano used in “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!”  We definitely appreciate our parents who volunteer!

    · The J.V. Men's Soccer Team won an epic match 3-2 over ACP last night. Riley Cushing and Damian Paramo scored the first two goals. Ethan Cameron scored the winning GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL with only two minutes left on the clock! The J.V. Men's Soccer Team improves their record to 8-2-1 On the season (VAMOS).


    · Calling all jazz musicians, including drummers, guitarists, pianists and instrumentalists: an interest meeting for the Casteel HS Jazz Band will take place on Monday, Jan 23rd at 2:40 in the band room. Don't miss out!"

    · Attention ALL STUDENTS don’t forget you need your ID to purchase lunch! If you don’t have one get a replacement card $5.00 in the bookstore.

    · Attention 7th and 8th graders: Grab a friend and attend our Throwback Sockhop on Friday, Feb. 3rd from 5-7pm in the Café’. Tickets are on sale at the Bookstore. Prices are $8 per ticket and $6 with an activity card.

    · All NHS members, stop by A36 this morning to receive your new pass for the semester.

    Here are today’s announcements for THURSDAY,  January 19th, 2017:

    • Model United Nations meets today during Conference in Room A45. Please make sure you are in attendance if you are competing at the Mesa Community College Conference.
    • Choir is having a fundraiser at  Someburros on Market Street at SanTan all day today.  Come out and support the choir.  Please bring a flyer for the event with you.  You can pick up the flyer in the choir room.  
    •   In search of your 5.5 community service hours?  Do you like kids?  Can you be encouraging and friendly?  Talk to Mr. Daniels in room A9 for an awesome community service opportunity working elementary school running club races and give back to your community as you work toward your 5.5 as you do something FUN.

    • Mens soccer was facing a tough matchup in their quest for the playoffs vs Santa Cruz - ranked ahead of your Colts at #17, a must win situation as top 16 make it to state.  Santa Cruz scored first and your Colts were facing yet another 1-0 deficit at halftime.  Led by Zach Nelson, Derek Auclair and a killer team defense they shut them down in the second half and took control in a hard fought second half as Casen Simonten, James Zanetti, and Alfredo Oliver exploded for 3 goals to put them away.  Next game is versus #1 team in the state ACP - wish them luck as they keep grinding and working to make it to playoffs! 
    • The J.V Men’s Soccer Team won 7-0 against Florence last night. Tyler Swencki, Grady Burns, Sam Larsen, Brenton Jones, Avery Sanders, and Damian Paramo all scored goals. Mees Brouwer, Taylor Driscoll, Hyrum, Williams, Westin Regester, and Mike Contreras had a dominant performance playing quality defense. The J.V. Soccer Team improves to
    7-2-1 on the year. 
    • There has been a change in the start time for today’s soccer games at ACP. Varsity will play at 3:00 and JV will play at 5:00. Come out and support your Colts as they take on the number 1 team at the 3A level!
