Holiday STEM ActivityVisit Hancock Elementary WebsiteReport a Problem with Item A003440Hancock Elementary - (2016-2017) Buddies from Mrs. Villaorduna's 6th grade class and Mrs. Chiu's 2nd grade class worked together on a STEM challenge to design and build a mini-Mayflower capable of holding the most capacity. Students were given only 1 square foot of tinfoil, 10 Popsicle sticks, 5 index cards, 10 straws and 12 inches of tape for the challenge. At the end, we had several boats that were capable of holding over 100 counters, which represented pilgrims. Junior Achievement (JA) Biztown encompasses important aspects of work readiness, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. Students interviewed special veterans in their lives and created poster displays to showcase their military service. At the event, the students presented their displays and shared stories with their class and parent attendees. Many of the honored veterans were also in attendance. Each kindergarten class selected a different toiletry item to bring in for the drive. Our classes counted the items brought in daily using ten frames and watched the donations fill up our wagons. Teachers were then given the book to add to their class libraries.
